The first born, an 80’s baby born at the height of the drug epidemic to a teen mother, a drug addict who would eventually be murdered, leaving behind six kids. Daughter of a convicted felon who served 20 years in prison. Raised by a single grandmother in Detroit. Senior Class President. A single mother. First generation homeowner. First generation college graduate.
Teacher. Mother of a 4.0 student. Student Dean. Elementary School Principal. Child of God. Part of knowing what a child needs is having been in the shoes of that child. It takes one random act of kindness, one word of encouragement to pour into a child that may spark a lifetime of confidence and determination. Our babies deserve the world. Our babies deserve a chance to achieve greatness. They deserve access to the same educational opportunities as the most wealthy individual in the world. I believe that my god-given purpose is to make sure that our children are set up for success with a strong
and virtuous foundation. Every day I tell my students to repeat after me, “I am somebody, greatness is in my DNA!” My life’s purpose is to put them in a position to believe that from the bottom of their hearts and from the depths
of their souls. I received a classical education because of the unwavering determination of my grandmother, who believed in the power of knowledge and virtue. It is because of her sacrifices and belief in me that I
stand here today, committed to ensuring that my students receive the same high-quality education. I firmly believe that classical education is the type of education that our students in Detroit deserve. It provides a strong foundation of critical thinking, moral development, and a deep understanding of the
world around them. I am ready to embark on the journey of metamorphosing education in Detroit, shaping young minds and hearts to become the leaders of tomorrow, equipped with the wisdom and virtues that will guide them through life’s challenges.
